The untamed landscape is featured in my
artwork. It springs from
a personal conviction that we must learn to accept a certain amount
of disorder in our surroundings. In so doing, we might very well
train ourselves to accept fallibility and disorder in other people
and possibly even ourselves.
It may be that I create works of art in order to make it possible to accept, care for, and love the surroundings nature has provided.

Artwork is a source of
exploration and joy. To the extent that others get pleasure from
what I create is an added bonus.
As it is for many contemporary artists, art for me has as one of its tenets the idea of celebrating the ‘common place’, to see the real beauty in our everyday surroundings.
If we live our entire year waiting for the summer trip to the national park, waiting to be wowed by the outstanding, to be entertained (in the ‘television sense’) by what we see, we will miss any possibly of enjoying the landscape. Walter Cudnohufsky, April 2005 |
